Holiday Survival Guide

The holidays can be one of the most difficult times to eat healthy and exercise. Sometimes the best approach to this, is to enjoy things in moderation and try to limit weight gain to just a pound or two. I have a few simple solutions to help you through this festive and food-filled season.

 •  Keep a food or workout journal. This can help increase
    weight loss, but it can also be a pain to whip out a pen
    and paper several times a day. Most everyone has a cell
    phone or laptop these days, so try two of my
    favorite Apps.

 •  Try a new workout. Since most workout routines suffer
    during the holidays, try something different, like a
    fitness video game on the Wii Fit or XBox 360.

 •  Purchase a wireless body monitor. Most people
    routinely underestimate their caloric intake and exercise
    output. This wireless device has proven to help people
    lose twice as much weight as those who don't use one.
    The FitBit Ultra Tracker (about $100) is a great
    option and it evensyncs with your computer. Body
    Media is another great choice.

 •  Count your bites. Many holiday appetizers are about 60
    calories per bite, which can really add up at a Cocktail
    Party.
 •  Limit alcohol intake. Alcohol adds empty calories and
    weakens your willpower. Allow yourself to splurge on
    one or two high-calorie holiday themed cocktails
    such as or flavored Eggnog or Spiced Cider,
    but otherwise stick with light beer Vodkas over ice.

 •  Pick your favorites. The amount of holiday cookies,
    candies, fudge, pies and sweets can be overwhelming.
    You simply cannot indulge at every opportunity. So,
    pick your veryfavorites and allow yourself a modest
    sampling and then learn to say No, so you won't hate
    yourself in January!!

 •   Get some rest! Don't let lack of sleep make you gain
    weight this holiday season. If you miss just one hour
    of sleep per night, your body releases hormones that
    can prompt you to eat more, and thus make you gain
    weight.

Most of all relax and enjoy yourself! It is a myth that most people gain 10 lbs during the holidays. You would have to eat 35,000 extra calories (that's about 17,000 cookies) to do that. But remember that if you do gain some extra weight during the holidays, Red Mountain Weight Loss will be here for you in the New Year. Rolando’s Story:

I came into the Mesa office on April 7th 2011 with my friend, who is also my boss. For the past 4 years we both had been trying one thing after another to lose weight. He had been told that this program was the answer, and I said that I would stick to it if it was.

I saw that this was another diet, that had good results, but the question in my mind was, “How good?” This has been a challenge and has been a learning experience to say the least. I am celebrating my 43rd birthday November 16, 2011 and what a gift that I’ve been given! I have not been at this weight in over 25 years.

The program has taught me a great deal, not only eating right, but that it feels good not to carry the weight. There are so many areas that this has really opened my eyes. You get accustomed to certain things, like folding your arms when sitting next to people, because you crowd them or even when you tie your shoes you feel the difference.  I have been obese all my life and the fact that I recognize these things really changes my thoughts on daily living. The best part of this journey is the way you see yourself with others, such as your spouse or your kids. I get the opportunity to not just take up space in this life but live in the space I take.

This is not an easy journey but with the help of this program the journey can be accomplished! Dr. Bentz and the staff have been great! Thanks guys! Many thanks to James for doing this for me and hope that his journey can be accomplished!

Recipe

A Tasty HCG-Friendly Holiday Meal

Holiday Beef Tenderloin

Servings: 8 servings
Active Time: 10 minutes
Total Time: 2 hour 30 minutes

• 1 (3 lb) Beef Tenderloin, trimmed
• 1 tbsp Salt
• Juice of 1 Lemon
• 1 tsp Pepper
• 1 tsp Onion Powder
• 1 tsp Garlic Powder
• 1 tsp Red Pepper (ground)
• 1 tsp Cumin (ground)
• 1 tsp Nutmeg (ground)
• ¼ cup Water
• Garnishes: Rosemary Sprigs & Fresh Sage Sprigs

1. Combine salt, pepper, onion powder, garlic powder,
    red pepper, cumin and nutmeg in a small bowl.
2. Place tenderloin in roasting pan.
3. Coat tenderloin with spice mixture.
4. Cover tenderloin and chill for 8 hours.
5. Preheat the oven to 500°F.
6. Bake at 500°F for 15 minutes or until browned.
7. Lower temperature to 375°F and bake for 20 more minutes
    or until desired degree of doneness.
8. Let stand for 10 minutes
9. Slice and garnish, if desired.

Roasted Broccoli

Servings: 2
Active Time: 10 minutes
Total Time: 30 minutes

• 7 oz of Broccoli*
• 3 cloves Garlic (minced)
• 1 Lemon (juiced)
• Salt and Pepper (to taste)

1. Preheat oven to 375°F.
2. In a small bowl, combine lemon juice and minced garlic.
3. Wash broccoli.
4. Toss broccoli with mixture and spread on a cookie sheet.
5. Add salt and pepper to taste.
6. Bake in the oven for 10 to 15 minutes or until broccoli is
    tender, turning after 5 minutes. (Cooking time will vary
    according to how thick the broccoli is and how done you
    prefer them).
7. Serve with a sprinkling of lemon juice.

* Asparagus can be substituted for broccoli.
